Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 as a result of its damage to the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel at ease using this refrigerant in St. Louis because it’ll help make your system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is completely out of production. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to operate your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Morgner Inc. Air Conditioning & Heating work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. Be sure to steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance. Morgner Inc.
