Five Reasons Why Your Air Conditioner Isn't Cooling Your Home

When it’s a scorching summer day in St. Louis, nothing could be worse than realizing your home comfort system isn’t performing the way it is supposed to. The last thing you should have to do is schedule air conditioner help. But your air conditioner is an incredibly involved system, so it can be almost impossible to discern what’s triggering the trouble by yourself.

That’s why Morgner Inc. Air Conditioning & Heating crafted this guide to help you understand what could be happening with your home comfort system. Here, you’ll uncover a few everyday reasons your place is feeling a little unpleasant. And even though a couple of these are straightforward DIY tasks, you may still need to bring in a pro for AC repair.

And if that’s the case, Morgner Inc. Air Conditioning & Heating is prepared to take care of your home. Here are five reasons why your air conditioner may not be cooling your house in St. Louis.

1. Your Thermostat Settings May Be Incorrect

Every family uses their thermostat a little differently to work with their individual requirements. Even so, a number of homeowners make the misstep of setting their thermostat to “On” rather than “Auto.” With this setting, the fan in your air conditioner will continue to push out air even after you’ve achieved your preferred temperature.

This can appear like your vents are distributing room temperature air, when in fact it’s simply utilizing the fan more often than needed. Trying changing this setting and determine if things seem better.

2. Your Air Conditioner Needs a Routine Cleaning

There are two principal spaces to examine for dirt or dust buildup when your home comfort system doesn’t appear to be working as it should.

First, check out your system’s filter. If you don’t switch your filter on a regular basis, built-up dust can make it hard for air to travel through and cool your house. If your filter is obviously dirty or dusty, it’s likely time for a substitute. (And as a rule, you need to switch it about once every three months at least.)

If your filter is looking good, go to your external unit. See if there’s enough space around your air conditioner and sweep away plants or debris close by. This piece of your system lets off the heat from within your rooms. If the coils outside are clogged, you won’t be feeling comfortable inside.

We suggest scheduling professional air conditioner maintenance every year to keep your unit running like it should and to keep your warranty valid.

3. Your AC is Releasing Refrigerant

Refrigerant is the substance that conditions the air in your space. It moves between your internal and outside system pieces to soak up and let off heat, to help your house keep cool. If there is a break along that path, you won’t be comfortable again until you set professional air conditioning repair.

Indicators of a refrigerant leak include a decrease in chilled air, pricier power charges, frozen evaporator coils and unusual hissing noises coming from your air conditioner.

If you are worried refrigerant could be leaking, call Morgner Inc. Air Conditioning & Heating for system repair as soon as possible. Refrigerant can also be damaging to your family’s health.

4. One or More Pieces Need to Be Replaced

Your system contains a a handful of key parts. These include the blower, evaporator coils, compressor, fan, condenser coils and expansion valve. If one part is not working, your home comfort suffers.

Our Morgner Inc. Air Conditioning & Heating pros are certified and experienced in HVAC. They can help you diagnose and mend any problem.

5. Your AC Should Be Upgraded

If your AC is more than 10 years old, it could be about time to think about new air conditioner installation. As your system puts on the years, it sadly won’t run as well as it once did. And it may be making your place less comfortable.

If your HVAC unit is on the younger side but still isn’t cutting it, it may be too small for your space. HVAC systems are not one-size-fits-all. A system that’s too small simply can’t chill a space the way a correctly sized HVAC can.
